Recap of Fall Term 2007
I’d like to thank all you for a very productive Fall Term Session of Student Senate. We dealt with some very complicated and controversial issues this term. Though things sometimes got heated, I thank you for engaging in healthy debate and voicing your opinions in the forum, which Senate provides. The Senate accomplished a lot this term including:
-Sworn Officer Initiative Compromise
-Passed a Good Samaritan Resolution
-Passed a Resolution on Cleaning the Townhouses
-Made recommendations to Senior Staff regarding Student Communication
-Created a Special Sustainability Committee and later made it a standing committee
-Instituted a Green Fee to support student initiated greening projects
-Housing Lottery Reform
-Passed a Resolution asking for Bravo (and winter term we will have Bravo)
I look forward to another productive term in the winter. Next term we will gain several new Senators back from Off-campus Programs or from Leave, including Senators Heather Kopec, Graham Troyer-Joy, Muhibo Sharif-Sidi, and Amanda Look. We will also, unfortunately, lose three Senators. I’d like to thank Hayle Gosnell, Becca Ganster, and Meredith Lirman for their willingness to serve for the fall term. We really appreciate it and hope that they’ll remain involved in Senate in the future.
During the first week of Winter Term we will be holding elections in districts that still have empty seats. Those districts include one seat in Seymour, one seat in Post First Years/I House, one seat in Conger-Neal, and two seats in Post Upperclass. Please encourage anyone in those districts interested to run.
