Knox College Ranked by Yahoo! as
One of the Nation's "Most Wired Colleges"Computer resources are both advanced and widespread for students and faculty at Knox College -- so much so that Knox has been ranked as one of the "Most Wired Colleges," in a survey published in the May 2000 issue of "Yahoo! Internet Life" magazine and on the magazine's website, wiredcolleges.com
Knox is ranked 37th among colleges in the nation in the survey. Criteria include on-line admission materials, computer resources in classrooms and residence halls, and whether computer support is provided when students have technical problems.
"At Knox, technology enhances the personalized learning process that brings students and faculty together, both inside and outside the classroom," said Lawrence Breitborde, Dean of the College. All classrooms and student residence rooms on the Knox campus have high-speed network connections, providing access to the Internet and a numerous software packages. All students and faculty have space on the College's servers for personal files and web pages.
This is the fourth year that "Yahoo! Internet Life" has published the survey, which covered more than 1,300 schools, divided between undergraduate colleges and research universities. Within Illinois, also listed in the top 100 undergraduate colleges were Illinois Wesleyan University, Lake Forest College and Illinois College.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college, located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,200 students from 45 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
