William E. Young Receives
Tenure at Knox College

William E. Young has been granted tenure by the Knox College Board of Trustees and promoted to the position of Associate Professor of Philosophy at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois.

Young has taught at Knox since 1992, specializing in contemporary ethical theory, epistemology, and Hegel. "Professor Young is an energetic teacher and has helped develop several new courses," said Lawrence B. Breitborde, Dean of the College.

Young's scholarship explores moral motivation, and he has recently published an article in the Southern Journal of Philosophy. He won the 1995 Philip Green Wright-Lombard College Prize, awarded by Knox for distinguished teaching.

Young has served the College by serving on the Honor Board, the Curriculum Committee and twice being elected by his colleagues to the Executive Committee. Young earned his B.A. summa cum laude in philosophy from the University of Rhode Island and his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame.

Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college, located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 42 states and 33 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
