Philosopher Alvin Plantinga to Speak at Knox College April 23

Philosopher and theologian Alvin Plantinga, of the University of Notre Dame, will give a lecture at 4 p.m., Friday, April 23 in the Common Room, Old Main, Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.

Plantinga is one of the leading scholars in the field of Christian philosophy. He has written more than 100 academic articles and a dozen books, including "Faith and Philosophy," "God and Other Minds," "The Nature of Necessity," and "Faith and Rationality."

Plantinga is the John A. O'Brien Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. He received his A.B. degree from Calvin College, his M.A. from the University of Michigan, and his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1958.

Plantinga has served as President of the Central Division of the American Philosophical Association and President of the Society of Christian Philosophers. He has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, as well as honorary degrees from Glasgow University, Calvin College, North Park College, and the Free University of Amsterdam.

Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college, located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 42 states and 33 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
