Knox College Choir
Fall Concert

The Knox College Choir, directed by Laura Lane, associate professor of music, will perform a free concert at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 8 in Kresge Recital Hall, Ford Center for Fine Arts.

The program includes classical, Renaissance and contemporary selections including "Ngana" by Stephen Leek, an Australian piece inspired by Aborigines; "A Red, Red Rose" by Mulholland, lyrics by Robert Burns; and a selection from the operetta The Gondoliers by Gilbert and Sullivan.

The Chamber Singers will perform pieces including "Hey Babe!" by Lasso (arr. Smith), featuring vocal percussion; and "Shoot, False Love, I Care Not" by Thomas Morley, a 16th century English madrigal.

The Knox College Choir consists of 43 students from all academic areas of the college. The Chamber Singers is a select group of Choir members who specialize in madrigals and other acapella works. The Choir's first compact disc was released in 1995. The group has toured widely throughout the USA as well as Spain and England. This March, the Choir will perform to Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague.

The director of the Choir, Laura Lane, is Director of Choral Activities and music department chair at Knox College. Dr. Lane also is the founder and director of the Nova Singers, a group widely known within the music circuit that currently has done three professional recordings. She has premiered ten new choral works by notable musicians including William Hawley and Thea Musgrave. Currently, Dr. Lane is the President-elect of the Illinois American Choral Directors Association.
