Dance Group Presents Recital, Residency at Knox College
Jan Erkert and Dancers will present a dance recital at 7:30 p.m., Friday,
April 9 in Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, Knox College,
Galesburg, Illinois. The concert is free and open to the public.
The recital is the culmination of a week-long residency by Erkert and her
dance group, in which she will work with students in classes and workshops.
Erkert will give an opening lecture, followed by a workshop, at 4:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, April 6, in the Auxiliary Gymnasium, with additional workshops later
during the week. Space is limited, with priority given to Knox students.

Erkert began her early training in ballet and later graduated in dance from
the University of Utah. She has worked as a choreographer for various companies
throughout the United States, Germany, Nicaragua, Mexico, China, Japan, and
Israel. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, the 1991 Ruth Page Award for
Choreographer of the Year and choreographic fellowships from the National
Endowment for the Arts and the Illinois Arts Council, and has been nominated
for the CalArts Alpert Award in Dance.
The residency is partially sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts
Council, a state agency. Other sponsors include The Terpsichore Dance
Collective, The Dance of Students, The Lectures and Concerts Committee, and The
Karil Kirk-Ortner Dance Fund.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college,
located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 45 states and 37
nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building
remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
