Knox Faculty, Davidson and Rogosin, To Perform "Enoch Arden" Nov. 6 at Knox College

Knox College Professor of Theater Ivan Davidson and Assistant Professor of Music David Rogosin will perform Richard Strauss's melodrama, "Enoch Arden," at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 6 in Jay Rehearsal Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The performance is free and open to the public.

Davidson will read the text of the poem, "Enoch Arden," written in 1864 by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The poem tells of Enoch Arden, an English sailor who is shipwrecked on a desert island and later returns home only to find that his wife has remarried.

Rogosin will perform the piano accompaniment to the narration. Strauss wrote the music in 1897 to create a traditional melodrama, a combination of a poetry or prose recital with musical accompaniment.

Rogosin has bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Montreal and a doctorate from the University of British Columbia. He joined Knox College faculty in 1998. Davidson is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, with a PhD from the University of Iowa. He has taught at Knox since 1969, directing and acting in numerous theatrical productions.

Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college, located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 42 states and 33 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
