Thomas Axtell Appointed
Vice President for Finance at Knox College
Knox College has appointed Thomas Axtell as vice president for finance and
treasurer. Axtell, currently associate treasurer and director of financial
planning at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, will begin his
duties at Knox in July.
"Tom Axtell has special expertise in the integration of fiscal planning and
strategic program planning," said Knox College President Richard Millman. "His
experience and extraordinary background in private higher education will make
him a valuable addition to our community."
Axtell has been at Wesleyan University since 1982, with responsibilities for
budget, student accounts and insurance. He has served as chair of the Board of
Directors of Middlesex Visiting Nurse and Home Health Services in Middletown,
and on the Planning and Zoning Commission of Clinton, Connecticut.
Axtell is a graduate of Oberlin College, where he was elected to Phi Beta
Kappa. He earned master's degrees in business administration and in
environmental science at Yale University.
Axtell and his wife, Jackie, a special education teacher and native of
Cleveland, have three children -- daughter Lael, attending Yale University; son
Matthew, who will attend Wesleyan University in the fall, and son Michael, in
seventh grade.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college,
located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 42 states and 33
nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building
remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
