Eastern European Folk Music Performed at Knox College March 26-27

Rozmarin, a trio that sings Eastern European folk music, will give a series of free, public presentations at Knox College on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27.

The group's name is Bulgarian for the herb rosemary, a symbol of good luck and prosperity. Their performances combine varied and authentic costumes, with the vibrant harmonies and rhythms of Eastern Europe. [Photo of group]

Rozmarin is a nonprofit troupe that uses its earnings to travel to Bosnia, Bulgaria and Russia, where they study with Slavic women to preserve a disappearing musical tradition. Rozmarin was founded in 1989 by Yale University undergraduates who wanted to explore the roots of Eastern European music.

These events are sponsored by Knox College Lecture and Concerts Committee, Russian Club, Dean of the College, Union Board, and Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college, located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 42 states and 33 nations. Knox's 'Old Main,' a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
