Bonnie Laughlin Receives Madison Fellowship

Bonnie Laughlin, a 1998 Knox College graduate from Florissant, Missouri, has been awarded a 1998 James Madison Fellowship. She was among just 25 graduating seniors in the nation this year who received the fellowships, which provide grants of up to $24,000 for graduate study in American history.

The fellowships are awarded to current teachers and college graduates who plan to teach American history, government or social studies at the secondary level. Winners are selected by a national panel that includes members of Congress and the Secretary of Education.

The fellowship caps a distinguished academic career at Knox. Laughlin, who plans to study for a master's degree at the University of Missouri, graduated first in her class, won the Szold Prize for outstanding work in history and received College Honors for advanced research in history.
