The six-hour video, "Mahabharata" will be shown at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, in Room 303, George Davis Hall. The video, based on the famous ancient Sanskrit poem of Indian history, culture and religion, is a presentation of the play by Peter Brook, which is drawn from a much longer film made by Indian television.
The Knox College International House, 418 S. West St., will present a seminar "Post Colonial Experience: South Asia and China" on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6 and 7. Omar Qureshi, a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the University of Chicago, will give a lecture, "India and Pakistan: 50 Years After Independence" at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6. Following the lecture, Qureshi will participate in a panel discussion with two Knox College faculty members, Roy Andersen, Charles W. and Arvilla S. Timme Professor of Economics, and Robert Seibert, Robert W. Murphy Professor of Political Science.
Michael Schneider, assistant professor of history at Knox College, will present a lecture, "Culture of an Enslaved Society: Rethinking Korean Cultural History," at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the International House.
A Progressive Dinner featuring various ethnic foods will take place at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, starting at the International House. The dinner will then proceed to the Islamic Center, 270 W. Tompkins St., and the ABLE House, 168 W. Tompkins St. The cost of the dinner is $2 per person.
Knox College students will demonstrate the Japanese art of paper folding in an Origami Workshop at the International House at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9.
Classical Indian violinist Vidya Dengle will present a concert of Hindustani music at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9 in Kresge Recital Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. Dengle will be accompanied by Aneesh Pradhan on the tabla.
The Augustana Koto Ensemble and Knox students will present music and dance from several Asian cultures in "Vision and Reality" at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12 in Kresge Recital Hall.
