David Wright, visiting instructor at Albion College, will give a lecture, "Fire on the Beach," at 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14 in Ferris Lounge, and fiction reading at 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, in the Common Room, Knox College.
Wright's lecture is based on his historical research into an all-black lifesaving station that operated off the North Carolina coast from 1880 until 1947.
Wright's works in fiction and creative non-fiction have been published in African American Review, New Virginia Review, and Southern Review.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college, located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 42 states and 33 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
