Dr. Charles E. Farley, Robert W. Murphy Professor of music at Knox College will give an organ recital at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 4 at First Presbyterian Church, Prairie and Ferris Streets in Galesburg. The recital is free and open to the public.
The recital will include William Boyce's Voluntary in D, Bach's Toccata and Fugue in F, Cesar Franck's Chorale in E, Marcel Dupre's Prelude and Fugue in G minor, and selections from Charles-Marie Widor's Fifth Symphony.
Farley, who is retiring this year, has been a member of the Knox faculty since 1959. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Western Michigan University in 1955, and his M.A. (1956) and Ph.D. (1962) degrees from Florida State University. Farley is the organist of the First Presbyterian Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. He has given numerous solo recitals while at Knox, and has been featured as a guest artist with the Knox-Galesburg Symphony.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college, located in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,100 students from 42 states and 33 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
