James Vandergriff, visiting assistant professor of educational studies at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, has been elected president of the Illinois Association of Teacher Educators (IATE).
Vandergriff will fill the post of president-elect of IATE until June 30, 2006, serving on the Executive Council and chairing several committees. He will serve as president of IATE from July 1, 2006 until July 1, 2007. He will chair the IATE Executive Council, represent IATE at the annual meeting of the National Association of Teacher Educators, and preside at the annual meetings of the Illinois association and the Midwest association.
A member of the Knox faculty since 1999, Vandergriff teaches courses in curriculum development, history of education, educational technology, and the role of education in society. He has conducted research in techniques of teacher education. Vandergriff also has studied linguistics and American folklore and has served as president of the Missouri Folklore Society.
Vandergriff earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Central Missouri State University and a doctorate at the University of Arizona. Prior to coming to Knox, he taught at Drury College and at Southwest Missouri State University.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 46 states and 43 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates. Related Links
