Knox College's Homecoming 2005 presents both alumni and public events, October 13-15 in Galesburg and on the Knox campus.
The College will host class reunions for hundreds of returning alumni; free, public performances by alumni in music, theatre and dance; an exhibit of photographs by Galesburg natives Steven and Ted Tourlentes; a symposium on legal, political, social and religious dimensions of the "right to die" issue; and athletic events in volleyball, soccer, football and cross country. Selected Knox courses on Friday, October 14, are open to all interested Knox alumni.
"Let Us Entertain You," a free, public variety show will showcase Knox alumni in music, theatre and dance, at 8 p.m., Thursday, October 13, in the Orpheum Theatre, 57 S. Kellogg, Galesburg. Jack Larson will host the show featuring vocalists Semenya McCord and Catherine Cox, with pianist Daniel Leahy; actor David Urlakis; dancers Katy Biver and Meghan Tippy, and folk musicians Sylvie Davidson and Jon Wagner.
The Knox Jazz Combo will perform at 9 p.m., Thursday, October 13, in McGillacuddy's, 58. S. Cherry, Galesburg. There will be a Knox jazz alumni jam session at 9 p.m., Friday, October 14 in the Cherry Street Bier Garten, 57. S. Cherry. Both shows are free.
Spontaneous Intrigue, an improvisational theatre group, will perform "Forms of 42," at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, October 14 and 15, in Studio Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The performances are free and open to the public.
A free, public symposium, "The Right to Die and Other Ethical Issues at the End of Life," will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, October 14, in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. Panelists are Lance Factor, professor of philosophy at Knox College; William Colby, attorney and expert on "right to die" cases; Fr. Michael Martin of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Robin Metz, professor of English at Knox College; and Joseph A. Moore, 49th Ward Alderman, Chicago.
An opening reception for an exhibit of photographs by Knox alumni Steven Tourlentes and Ted Tourlentes will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, October 14, in the Gallery, Ford Center for the Fine Arts.
Knox Service Awards will be presented to three Knox alumni at the Homecoming Convocation at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 15, in Kresge Hall. The awards in recognition of volunteer activities for the college will be presented to William McVey of Park Ridge Illinois; Jerome Tatar of Oak Brook Illinois, and Ann Feldman Perille of Englewood, Colorado.
In athletic events, the Knox volleyball team competes against Lake Forest College at 7 p.m., Friday, October 14; the Prairie Fire Cross Country Invitational will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 15, at Lake Storey; the men's soccer team plays Aurora University at 11 a.m., Saturday; and the Knox football team takes on Grinnell College at 1:30 p.m., Saturday.
