GALESBURG -- John Marchica, an award-winning entrepreneur and author of a new book on business ethics, will give a lecture, "Integrity and Accountability: College and Beyond," at 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, in Ferris Lounge, Seymour Union, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois.
A Knox graduate, Marchica is the founder and chief executive officer of FWI, a medical information analysis and communication consulting firm, and the author of the forthcoming book "The Accountable Organization: Reclaiming Integrity, Restoring Trust."
"The book is written for leaders seeking to build companies that foster trust in a 'post Enron' world," Marchica says, referring to one of the biggest business scandals. "It discusses the foundation of integrity, accountability and trust that a successful business needs, both internally and externally. It also looks at the role of integrity in dealing with conflict and risk, and concludes with a profile of Southwest Airlines as an exemplary operation."
Marchica earned a bachelor's degree in economics at Knox in 1988. He also earned two master's degrees at the University of Chicago -- an MBA and an M.A. in Public Policy. He worked in the pharmaceutical industry until 1994, when he founded FWI, originally named FaxWatch, Inc., in Scottsdale, Arizona.
In 2003 Marchica was a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Arizona/Southern California region. FWI has been named to the AZTech50 and FasTech50 lists of Arizona's top technology companies. FWI also has twice made the Inc. 500 list of America's fastest-growing companies.
The lecture is sponsored by the Knox College Business and Management Program and the Knox College Economics Club.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 46 states and 50 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
