GALESBURG -- Despite a dramatic fall-off in international travel, Knox College is one of the most internationally diverse national liberal arts colleges in the United States, according to the 2003 college rankings from U.S. News & World Report. With 10% of Knox students coming from outside the U.S., Knox is ranked eighth in international diversity among national liberal arts colleges.
"Today's students will work in a global economy, so collaborating with foreign students can provide an advantage," U.S. News wrote in the rankings, released today (Friday, Sept. 13).
Knox is also ranked among the top 50 "Best Values" in the U.S. among national liberal arts colleges. The ranking of 31st among Best Values is a measure of both educational quality and affordability. According to the U.S. News figures, 73% of Knox students receive need-based financial aid.
"Knox has been one of the best values among national liberal arts colleges since the rankings were introduced in 1997," said Knox College President Roger L. Taylor. "Our commitment to making a quality education accessible to students has not wavered. Knox consistently brings together outstanding students and faculty from around the world to create an affordable, high-quality liberal arts education."
U.S. News released the rankings on its web site on Friday, Sept. 13. "America's Best Colleges," a book which contains the U.S. News college rankings, goes on sale Sept. 16. Most of the rankings and some of the articles from the book will be in the Sept. 23 issue of U.S News & World Report, which also goes on sale Sept. 16.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 48 states and 40 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
