Classical Indian musician Amol Sandil will give two workshops and one performance, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, May 15, 16 and 17 at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The events are free and open to the public.
Sandil will lead workshops in Indian classical music at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday and 8:30 p.m., Friday in Wallace Lounge, Seymour Union. He will give a performance at 7:30 p.m., Thursday on the Gizmo Patio, Seymour Union.
Sandil, who has performed throughout India and in Britain and Japan, plays the sitar and is among the first contemporary Indian artists to experiment with mandolin. He has recently begun experimenting with the fusion of Indian classical music and jazz on electric guitar.
Sandil has college degrees in both music and in mathematics and has held executive positions in the automotive industry. He is an associate of the Manchester Business School and has taught management and corporate strategy at Delhi University and the Indian Institute of Management. In addition to his performances, he is currently working as a management consultant and is traveling in the United States on business.
