GALESBURG -- Knox College has been selected for the new edition of "The Best 345 Colleges," published by Princeton Review. Knox is one of four national liberal arts colleges in Illinois that are included in the guidebook. The others are Lake Forest College, Illinois Wesleyan University and Wheaton College.
Knox is ranked in the top 20 in two of the categories compiled by Princeton Review. Knox is ranked first in the nation in the category "students happy with financial aid," and 19th in the category "professors make themselves accessible." Rankings are based on institutional data and surveys of student opinion.
The Princeton Review rankings include informal comments gathered from students. "The highly praised trimester system allows students to 'concentrate more on classes' and take advantage of 'nice, long breaks' in between sessions," the Princeton Review wrote. "Forty percent of Knox grads go directly to graduate and professional programs. 'If you are ambitious,' asserts a chemistry major, 'Knox is the place to be.' No wonder students offer this unofficial motto for their school: 'Knox rocks!' "
"We're pleased to be ranked in an elite group of 345 colleges and universities," said Paul Steenis, Knox College director of admission.
"Knox is committed to both academic quality and affordability," Steenis said, explaining the rankings. "Student accessibility to outstanding faculty is one of Knox's strongest features. It's the real reason students go to college, and we're among the best at providing it," Steenis said. "The financial aid ranking indicates that students are also pleased with the high level of personal service and responsiveness in our financial aid office."
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 48 states and 40 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
