Seyyed Hossein Nasr, an author and Islamic scholar, will present two talks on Thursday, May 16, "Foundations for a Dialogue between Islam and Judaism," at 4:00 p.m., and "Islam and the Image of Islam in the West," at 7:30 p.m., in Ferris Lounge, Seymour Union, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. Both talks are free and open to the public.
A renowned authority on Islamic philosophy, Nasr has written more than thirty books and 400 articles concerning Islamic studies, comparative philosophy and religion, philosophy of art and other philosophical studies. He has lectured worldwide promoting tolerance among religions. (Download publication photo.)
Nasr is University Professor of Islamic Studies at The George Washington University. He is the founder and past president of the Iranian Academy of Philosophy. A native of Iran, he graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed his graduate and doctoral studies at Harvard University. He has held teaching positions at several universities in both Iran and the United States.
The lectures are co-sponsored by the Islamic Club and Hillel Club, with additional support from the Cultural Events Committee, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Union Board, the Max and Dora Barash and the Mitchell and Rose L. Rudman Endowment Funds in Judaic Studies, the Nixon Fund for Religious Life, Student Development Office, and Intercultural Life Office.
