Spanish Scholar to Receive Honorary Degree

A professor at the University of Barcelona, Losada also has taught art history for many years at the Knox College Program in Barcelona.

Losada has received international acclaim for his translations, including more than 120 titles translated into Spanish from Portuguese, Galician, Catalan, French and German. Losada won Spain's National Prize for Translation for his Spanish translations of the works of Portuguese novelist and Nobel Prisze winner Jose Saramago. In recognition of the importance of his translations to intercultural understanding, Losdada has received awards from the governments of Galicia, Catalonia, Portugal, and Brazil. The University of Barcelona presented him with the Pontiero Prize for lifetime achievements in translation.

Losada has also written a novel, "The Pilgrim," and several books on Spanish art, including "Goya" and "The Pilgrimage to Santiago," and has published numerous articles on literature. He is vice president of the Internatinal Associate of Galician Studies and a member of the International Associaton of Literary Critics and the Spanish Association of Literary Critics. Losada has been the literary director of several publishers and an advisor to the Galician Bulletin of Literature and the Galician Universal Encyclopedia.

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 47 states and 42 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
