William Longbrake, an expert in the field of banking and finance, will give the Timme Lecture in Economics, "The Future of Banking," at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3rd, in Ferris Lounge, Seymour Union, Knox College, in Galesburg, Illinois.
Longbrake is chief financial officer and vice chair of Risk Management of Washington Mutual, Inc., the largest home lender and seventh-largest bank in the United States, with $275-billion in assets. In 2001, Longbrake was named "CFO of the Year" in the Driving Revenue Growth category by CFO Magazine.
Longbrake has also served as chief financial officer and deputy to the chairman for finance at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and as senior deputy comptroller for resource management in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
Longbrake has a bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster, master's degrees in economics and in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, and a doctorate in finance from the University of Maryland.
The Charles W. and Arvilla Timme Lectureship in Economics is endowed by a gift from the late Colonel Charles W. Timme, who served with the U. S. Air Force and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Since it was established in 1993, the lectureship has brought to campus numerous distinguished speakers in the field of economics.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 48 states and 40 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
