Student theatre group performs May 24-25

A Knox College student theatre troupe, The Red Sedative, will present "Hidden in Plain View," at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25, in Studio Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois. The show is free and open to the public.

The Red Sedative performs "devised theatre," in which the creator and cast members create a script during the rehearsal process, using improvisation, writing, scene studies and discussion, as well as planned stories. The program consists of 26 scenes, from comedy to drama, both realistic and abstract.

The Red Sedative cast includes Michael Barbezat, a junior from Elgin, Illinois; Julia Allison Beale, a sophomore from Lubbock, Texas; Jackie Dehne, a first-year student from Bensenville, Illinois; Gabe Sandel, a sophomore from Silver Spring, Maryland; and Dave Urlakis, a junior from Naperville, Illinois. Urlakis is the creator. The stage manager is Tristina Gelinas, a senior from Atlanta, Georgia.

Urlakis explains that devised theatre is "a creative collaboration. You throw out ideas and get ideas thrown back at you and really just play and work with them until you have something that is honest and dramatically works."
