Knox College Awarded NCAA Internship Grant

GALESBURG -- The NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant Selection Committee has awarded Knox College a two-year internship grant for 2002-2004.

Knox was of one of fifteen Division III schools nation-wide to receive the grant, which allows for the hiring of additional women and minority athletic interns. Four athletic conferences also were awarded the grant. The committee received nearly 40 grant applications.

"In recent years, the NCAA has dedicated a significant amount of time, energy and resources to increase the number of women and ethnic minorities involved in the administration of college athletics," said Knox College Director of Athletics Dan Calandro. "As a result, we are honored to have been selected as one of the fifteen Division III colleges from across the country to help in this endeavor. We also firmly believe that we will provide an excellent internship opportunity for the young man or woman selected to fill this position."

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 48 states and 40 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
