Roger Taylor, Interim President of Knox College, read to second-grade students at Costa Catholic School in Galesburg on Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 4, 2001), as part of Galesburg Noon Rotary Club's support for Reading is Fundamental (RIF). Download publication photo
"Reading is fundamental to developing a child's ability to understand and enjoy the world," Taylor said. "Reading not only develops a child's mind, it enriches their lives and delights their hearts. I can think of nothing better than to share a good story with children."
The Galesburg Noon Rotary Club has participated in RIF programs for several years, giving books to Galesburg grade school students and presenting in-school readings three times a year. Students are given a choice of books to keep for themselves. Nationally, RIF involves more than 300,000 volunteers at 18,000 sites, distributing more than 200-million books to young people.
