The second concert in the Knox Jazz Series will feature the Jeff Hellmer/John Fremgen Quartet, from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight, Thursday, Nov. 1, at Cherry Street Biergarten, 55 S. Cherry, Galesburg. Admission to the concert is $5 at the door.
Hellmer, who plays piano, is the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He conducts the University of Texas Jazz Orchestra and has released several solo piano CDs. He is the co-author of the textbook "Jazz Theory and Practice."
Bassist John Fremgen has performed in concert and on jingles and national broadcasts, including "The Late Show With David Letterman," and "Dawson's Creek." He has also been featured on albums with PJ Olsson, Will Taylor, Rick Lawn and others.
Guitarist Mitch Watkins has performed with Joe Ely, Jennifer Warnes, and K.T. Oslin. He earned a Grammy nomination in production for his collaboration with singer-songwriter Abra Moore. He has several recordings of his own, most recently "Humhead."
Drummer David Glover is a doctoral candidate in percussion performance and jazz studies at the University of Texas at Austin. His jazz quartet, Odd Man Out, recently released their debut album on Viewpoint Records.
