The Knox Jazz Ensemble won a rating of "I" (superior) at the University of Kansas jazz festival, held March 3 in Lawrence, Kansas. Andy Crawford, guitar, and Bryan Osborne, trumpet, received outstanding soloist awards at the non-competitive festival. The ensemble is directed by Scott Garlock, associate professor of music.
Last month in Macomb, the Jazz Ensemble won the top college big band award for the eighth year in a row at the Western Illinois University Jazz Festival. This week, the ensemble will perform as part of the Knox-Rootabaga Jazz Festival in Galesburg.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,220 students from 47 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
