Sue Hulett, Professor of Political Science at Knox College, will give a talk,"May a Christian Defend Self, Others, and Country? Pacifism and the 'Just War' tradition in Christian Theology," at 4:30 p.m., Thursday Oct. 25, in Ferris Lounge, Seymour Union, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Hulett will address various Christian viewpoints on war, including biblical perspectives on pacifism and the idea of fighting a "just war."
Hulett has taught at Knox since 1980 and is currently chair of the Department of Political Science and International Relations. She holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Southern California. Hulett has written extensively on U.S.- Russian relations and on religion in American politics. She contributed articles to the books "Religion and American Law: An Encyclopedia," and to "Professors Who Believe: The Spiritual Journeys of Christian Faculty Christianity and Modern Politics."
The lecture is sponsored by the Knox student organization Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 47 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
