Moses Hogan, world-renowned arranger of African-American spirituals, will present several free public events Oct. 14 and 15 in Galesburg, in connection with his performance with the Nova Singers on Oct. 13.
Hogan will conduct a workshop at Carl Sandburg College with the Sandburg Singers and director Tim Pahel at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14, in the Carl Sandburg College Fine Arts Theater. The event is free and open to the public for observation.
Hogan will give an informal talk about African-American spirituals at 12 noon Monday, Oct. 15, in Jay Rehearsal Hall at Knox College. He will direct members of the Knox College Choir in several of his arrangements. The talk is free and open to the public. Lunch is available for $6.00 per person. Hogan will conduct a workshop with the Knox College Choir and director Laura Lane, focusing on several of his arrangements, at 3:00 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in Kresge Recital Hall at Knox College. The workshop is free and open to the public for observation.
The free events are sponsored by Nova Singers, Carl Sandburg College Music Department, Knox College Music Department, and the Knox College Office of Intercultural Life.
Hogan is visiting Galesburg to conduct the Nova Singers in a concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church. Tickets are available at the door, free to students with school ID.
