String Ensemble to Perform

The Knox College String Ensemble will perform at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 15, in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois. The concert is free and open to the public.

The ensemble, directed by Carolyn Suda, adjunct instructor in music, will perform works by Handel and Vaughan Williams, as well as arrangements of traditional folk pieces.

Ensemble members are: Sophia Brigham, Jessica Corlett, Ellie Kirk, Sarah Morrissey, Heather Mrozek, Allison O'Brien, Katy Conover, Heather Papp, Vince Singleton, Marian Spurgeon and Ryan Barnacle, violin; Laura Reedy and Lindsey Roland, viola; and Hera Cha, Michael O'Neal and Helen Hoyt, cello.

Featured soloists will include Jessica Corlett, violin, performing "Meditation from Thais" by Massenet; Hera Cha, cello, performing "Sicilienne" by Faure; and Helen Hoyt, cello, performing "Salut D'Amour" by Elgar.

A string quartet (Sophia Brigham, violin I; Jessica Corlett, violin II; Laura Reedy, viola; and Helen Hoyt, cello) will also perform. The quartet will play one movement from Beethoven's String Quartet in F.

Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,220 students from 47 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
