Seymour Library

Seymour Library offers "an inviting building and a dedicated staff," according to Knox College Librarian Jeffrey Douglas, in a recent interview about the ranking with the "IACRL Newsletter," a publication of the Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries.

"Housed in an attractive and recently renovated older building, the library offers a variety of seating options to make students feel at home: two reading rooms; oversized, networked study carrels; offices for honors students," wrote the IACRL Spring 2001 newsletter. "In addition, it is full of comfortable nooks and crannies that encourage extended visits. The Reference staff becomes very involved in the major research projects that are required of almost every senior. As a result, students learn to rely heavily on the expertise of librarians and come to value their knowledge and dedication."

The Knox Library has 300,000 volumes, and about 700 paid journal subscriptions, and a support staff of thirteen. On-line services are available at http://library.knox.edu/.

Princeton Review rankings are based on a non-scientific survey of student opinion. The most positive aspect of the honor, Douglas told the IACRL Newsletter, is that Seymour Library is ranked highly by "the people whom the library is here to serve."
