Twenty nine students 26 graduating seniors and three juniors at Knox College have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society. Most Phi Beta Kappa members are elected during their senior year in college. Especially outstanding students may be elected at the end of their junior year.
Three graduating seniors were elected to Phi Beta Kappa last year as juniors Helen Hoyt, Meghan Leiseberg, and Derek Papp.

The Knox College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was chartered in 1917. It is the fourth-oldest in the Illinois and the first established at a liberal arts college in the state. Other chapters in Illinois are located at Augustana College, University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois College, Illinois Wesleyan University, Lake Forest College, Loyola University, Northwestern University, and Rockford College.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,220 students from 47 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
