S.C. Banwart Elected Knox College Trustee

S.C. (Sid) Banwart, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Caterpillar Inc., has been elected to the Board of Trustees of Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. Banwart will serve as a General Trustee of the liberal arts college.

"Sid Banwart is a welcome addition to the Board of Trustees," said Roger Taylor, Chair of the College's Board of Trustees. "Sid Banwart is a seasoned business executive in the information technology field. Knox will benefit from his expertise."

Since last year, Banwart has been vice president with responsibility for the Systems and Processes Division, overseeing Caterpillar's information technology, dealer business systems, e-business and the "6 Sigma" program, a quality control process for the detection and elimination of defects.

"I am pleased to join the Trustees of an outstanding liberal arts college," Banwart said. "Caterpillar has supported a number of technology projects at Knox and I look forward to serving on the Board."

A vice president of Caterpillar since 1997, Banwart previously directed the Technical Services Division and the Component Products Division. He has worked for Caterpillar since 1968, holding engineering, supervisory and management posts at Caterpillar facilities in East Peoria, Aurora, and Decatur, Illinois; and Lafayette, Indiana. He also has held management positions at Caterpillar Mexico SA de C.V.

Banwart is a member of the National Committee on Education for the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the Information Systems Council of the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation. He also serves on advisory councils to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, and the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. In Illinois, he is a board member of the Heartland Resources Council, Union Planters Bank, the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Peoria Symphony Orchestra.

A graduate of Iowa State University, Banwart completed an MBA at the University of Illinois and advanced management training programs at Caterpillar and at Duke University.
