A company operated by a group of Knox College students recently rolled out a new web site for the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce and its member businesses. The site, galesburg.org, offers links to local firms, public events, and community and economic development information about Galesburg.
In addition to the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, other supporters of galesburg.org include Galesburg 2000 and the Galesburg Downtown Council.
The firm, dhaga.com, includes Riyaz Vazir, Hari Ramanan, Gayathri Ramanan, Hee Seng Tan, Akshay Shende, Homyar Buhariwalla, and Pratik Dhupia. Advising the firm is John Haslem, director of the Knox College Learning Center.
"The project has been a significant extra-curricular experience for the students," Haslem said. "We're also looking to hire more Knox students as interns."
The group unveiled the site at a news conference at the Educational Technology Center, a community-based computer center created by Knox College, Carl Sandburg College, and Galesburg School District 205; with support from Galesburg businesses.

According to Vazir, the students in dhaga.com would like to build additional web pages for Galesburg businesses, which would be linked through galesburg.org as a common portal site.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,220 students from 47 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
