Relay for Life 2000 Held at Knox
The 2000 Relay for Life, held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 11 and 12, on the track at Knox College's Trevor Field, raised more than $70,000 for cancer research and support programs. The total compares to $58,890 raised last year, according to Dolly Sundell, an employee in the financial aid office at Knox and one of the event coordinators.
"We had 64 teams, 14 more than last year, and over 1800 luminaries, compared to 1159 last year," Sundell said. Ninety-five cancer survivors participated in the symbolic first lap. Teams of walkers and runners were on track all night on Friday, Aug. 11 and throughout the day on Saturday, Aug. 12.
