Knox College and Carl Sandburg College today (Friday, Oct. 27, 2000) established a Joint Admission Program that will make it easier for Sandburg students to continue their educations at Knox. The program also provides academic scholarships to Knox of up to $9,500 a year.
The agreement was announced (photo right) by Wayne Green, Chairman of the Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees; Dr. Richard S. Millman, President of Knox College, and Dr. Donald G. Crist, President of Carl Sandburg College, on Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, on the Knox campus in Galesburg.
"We are delighted to be able to expand on the long-standing Articulation Agreement between Knox and Sandburg colleges and to further enhance the cooperative efforts between our two schools," Millman said. The Articulation Agreement awards junior standing to students who have earned an associate's degree at Carl Sandburg College and enroll in Knox to complete a bachelor's degree.
"The Joint Admission Program recognizes the strength of the associate's degree programs at Carl Sandburg College," Millman said. In the past five years, more than 50 Carl Sandburg College students have enrolled at Knox, typically after completing their AA or AS degrees. "We expect those enrollments to increase significantly with the attractive features of this new program."
Through the Joint Admission Program, students will be able to apply to Knox at the same time that they apply to CSC. Students who are admitted to the program will receive special Knox ID's that provide access to Knox facilities and events.
"Students in the Joint Admission Program will become part of the Knox community while still enrolled at Carl Sandburg College," said Paul Steenis, Director of Admission at Knox. "We will reserve a place for them in the entering class and provide special advising prior to their enrollment at Knox." Students who complete the program also will be offered academic scholarships to Knox of between $5,000 and $9,500 annually.
Knox College and Carl Sandburg College, along with Galesburg School District 205, also cooperate in the Educational Technology Center (a community-based computer center in Galesburg) and the George Washington Gale Scholars Program (a college preparatory initiative).
Carl Sandburg College enrolls approximately 3,000 students in its two-year degree and certificate programs at campuses in Galesburg, Bushnell and Carthage. Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college in Galesburg, with 1,220 students from 47 states and 41 nations.
