"Life According to Agfa," a noted Israeli film, will be shown at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, in Room 315, Old Main, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. Following the film there will be commentary by Daphne Tsimhoni, a visiting professor at Knox College.
"Life According to Agfa," made by Assi Dayan, son of the famous Israeli general Moshe Dayan, has sitirred great controversy in Israel. The movie is deeply critical of the social and political divides in Israeli society -- between men and women, between Arabs and Jews, between Jews of Middle Eastern origin and those from Europe and the West.
"Life According to Agfa" has not been released in the United States, but Knox received special permission to screen it in conjunction with Tsimhoni's teaching of several courses at Knox this fall. Tsimhoni is Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Humanities and Arts, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, and a Research Fellow at the Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace, Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,220 students from 47 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
