Knox College Dean Named to Lead Educational Panel
Lawrence B. Breitborde, Dean of Knox College and Vice President for Academic Affairs, has been selected chair of the executive committee of the Board of Deans of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM). The ACM is an educational consortium of 14 selective liberal arts colleges in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Colorado.
Breitborde, who has been Dean of Knox College since 1995, served this past summer as a panelist for the selection of research fellowship recipients for the National Endowment for the Humanities. He is a linguist and cultural anthropologist who has studied urbanization in West Africa. He earned his BA at Clark University and his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Rochester.
Founded in 1837, Knox is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with 1,220 students from 47 states and 41 nations. Knox's "Old Main," a National Historic Landmark, is the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
