--CAMPUS EVENTS--

1. GREGORY CRAIG TO DELIVER CONVOCATION ADDRESS
Gregory B. Craig, one of the nation's best-known lawyers, will deliver
the Convocation Address at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 6, in Harbach
Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts.
   A partner in the Washington law firm of Williams and Connolly, Craig
has been involved in some of the highest-profile court cases in recent
U.S. history. He was Special White House Counsel during President Bill
Clinton's impeachment hearings in 1998-99. He represented Juan Miguel
Gonzales, the father of seven-year-old Elian Gonzales, in the court
battle for custody of the young Cuban refugee. Craig also helped defend
John Hinckley, Jr., the man who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan
in 1981, but was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

2. INVITATION TO HUMAN RIGHTS CENTER BBQ, SEPT. 7
The Human Rights Center is holding a BBQ Friday Sept. 7 from 5 p.m.-7
p.m. The whole campus is welcome and encouraged to attend. Come eat free
food and find out about Latin American Concerns Committee, Students
Against Sexism in Society, Women's Health Advocacy Group, Amnesty
International and Common Ground. See you there!

3. INVITATION TO ABLE COOKOUT, SEPT. 8
The campus community is invited to a Welcome Back Cookout on Saturday,
September 8, beginning at Noon at the ABLE Center for Black Culture, 168
W. Tompkins. The cookout is sponsored by ABLE, The Office of
Intercultural Life and the ABLE Center for Black Culture.

4. TIME CHANGE FOR FOOTBALL GAME
This Saturday's (Sept. 8) football game with Millikin, (in Decatur) will
begin at 1 p.m., not 1:30 p.m. as indicated on the schedule.

5. HOFFMAN ARTICLES PUBLISHED
Heather Hoffmann, department of psychology, presented work entitled
"Classical conditioning of sexual arousal in women and men: Effects of
varying conscious awareness and biological relevance of the CS" at the
International Academy of Sex Research (IASR) meeting in Montreal Canada
on July 12.  She also wrote an article on postpartum sexuality entitled
"Is there sex after childbirth?" for the magazine The Female Patient
that was published in August and another article entitled "Better sex
from a bottle?" for the same magazine that will be published in October.

6. ALLISON LECTURED/ATTENDED ANNUAL MEETING
Stuart Allison, biology, gave a talk about his research into prairie
restoration at Green Oaks to biology faculty and students at Bradley
University on July 18. He also attended the 86th annual meeting of the
Ecological Society of America. The meeting was held at the University of
Wisconsin in Madison from August 5-10.

7. FITZGERALD BOOK PUBLISHED
The third edition of "Research Methods And Statistics In Criminal
Justice: An Introduction," co-authored by Jack Fitzgerald (professor
emeritus, anthropology and sociology) and Steve Cox (Western Illinois
University) has been published by Wadsworth Publishing Company.

8. MANDATORY BASEBALL MEETING IS SEPT. 6
There will be a mandatory meeting for all men playing baseball this
spring on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the upstairs classroom at the
gym.  This meeting must not be missed.

10. SASS FIRST MEETING IS SEPT. 11
Students Against Sexism in Society will hold its first meeting Tuesday
the 11 at 8 p.m. in the Human Rights Center. Everyone is welcome!

11. HUMAN RIGHTS CENTER TASK FORCE MEETING IS SEPT. 11
The Human Rights Center task force will hold its first meeting Tuesday,
Sept. 11 at 9 p.m. in the HRC. If you are interested in improving this
cultural center and valuable campus resource, you are encouraged to
attend.

12. WOMEN'S CHORALE REHEARSAL IS SEPT. 12
The first rehearsal of the Knox College Women's Chorale will be
Wednesday, September 12 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. in CFA Room 209. All Knox

13. 3-2 ENGINEERING INFORMATIONAL MEETING IS SEPT. 13
There will be an informational meeting for all students interested in
the 3-2 engineering program in the Umbeck Science and Math Center, Room
D108  at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 13. Available degree programs and
the means to qualify for them will be discussed. For more information,

14. LSAT PREP SESSIONS TO BE OFFERED

Students who wish to participate in the preparation sessions for the
LSAT should enroll in Law 030 Fall Term.  If you are going to take the
LSAT this academic year or in June, I recommend you participate in these
sessions.  We will meet daily until the administration of the October
LSAT at 12:10 in GDH 103.

15. FULBRIGHT GRANT WORKSHOP IS SEPT. 13
Seniors who will graduate in June 2001 and who wish to apply for a
Fulbright grant (for a year of study and research abroad) are invited to
a workshop to be presented by Dean Breitborde on Thursday, September 13,
at 7 p.m. in the Common Room.  Any student intending to apply this fall
should attend this meeting.


16. Hablas Espanol? Interested in Kids?
If you answered, "YES!,"  then Language for Kids is for you!! Here's
some information you need:
Language for Kids is a joint project sponsored by the City of Galesburg
and Knox College. It's a program designed to teach foreign language to
area children ages 4-10. Language for Kids needs Knox students to serve
as instructors. If you'd like some experience teaching kids, and you've
taken Spanish, you qualify!  You don't need to be a Spanish or
Educational Studies major. You'll get unbeatable experience and $$, too.

Classes meet Mondays, from October 15-November 19 from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. in
GDH.
Applications may be obtained from the Office of the Dean of Students.
Fill it out and return it to Margot Kinberg, 211F GDH (Campus Box 118)
by September 25.

18. IM VOLLEYBALL TEAM MEMBERS WANTED

Anyone interested in playing volleyball in the FALL IM Volleyball League
for the faculty/staff team, please contact me before September 18.
  The team will play no more than twice per week for about a 4-6 week
season, starting usually in early October.  Games are on any night
except Fridays and Saturdays, sometime between 7 p.m.-9 p.m.  Come when
and as often as you can.
  Our team usually plays in the "B" League (the lowest)-- just for fun.
Team consists of men and women of ALL AGES, sizes and shapes! We have
fun, and sometimes we win. (And, if we win enough games, we get
T-shirts!)  Spouses and significant others are encouraged to play as
well.

COMMUNITY CHORUS REHEARSALS BEGIN SEPT. 10
The Galesburg Community Chorus will begin rehearsals Monday, September
10. Rehearsals are every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. in Jay Rehearsal
Hall in CFA. The group's first concert will be December 8, and the
program will consist of works by J.S. Bach. No audition is required, and
