1. OPEN FORUM FOR ASSOCIATE DEANÕS POSITION IS MAY 24
You are invited to an open forum on Thursday May 24 at 4pm in the Common
Room of Old Main to meet Debbie Southern, a candidate for the position of
Associate Dean of Students.
Ms Southern earned her master's degree from the University of Iowa in
Higher Education Administration in 1995. She recently served as the
Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life at Cornell
College, in Iowa.

2. ARGONNE NATIONAL LABS SPEAKER, MAY 24
Thomas Fields of Argonne National Labs will present "The Search for Neutrino
Mass" on Thursday, May 24 at 4 p.m. in SMAC D108. The question of whether or
not the neutrino has mass is important to our understanding of how stars
work and may determine the ultimate fate of the universe. Experiments to
address the question are extraordinarily difficult. Recent work in which a
beam of neutrinos was sent underground from Chicago to Minnesota has
clarified more parts of the picture.

3. TRAVELOGUE PUBLICATION AVAILABLE MAY 24
Stop by the Off-Campus Study Office (Room 13, Old Jail) on Thursday, May 24
between 10:30 a.m.-noon. Pick up your first edition of TRAVELOGUE. This
publication is a collection of travel stories, poems and pictures from all
over the world, as seen and told by Knox students who have studied
off-campus.

Interested in submitting your work before you venture off this summer? All
interested students, please pick up a cover sheet from the Catch board or
publications office, and attach to your submission. Submissions go to Box
1720, with the deadline Friday, May 25. This is an excellent opportunity for
graduating students and those going abroad in the fall to have their work
considered for the Fall 2001 issue of Catch. Visual art may be submitted on
the labeled table outside the art studio. Submissions will be assessed in
the fall, and students will be notified via email.

13. COMMENCEMENT WEEKEND DETAILS
Since we are quickly approaching Commencement Ō01, it is important to go
over a few details of Commencement Weekend.
o Commencement Exercises will be held Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 a. m. on the
South Lawn of Old Main (Memorial Gymnasium in case of rain). Graduates line
up for the processional at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Ford Center for
Fine Arts. Rain procedures will be distributed at rehearsal.
o Commencement rehearsal is Friday, June 1 at 3:00 p.m. on the South Lawn of
Old Main (Memorial Gymnasium in case of rain). Caps and gowns will be
distributed during rehearsal. Practice will begin promptly at 3 p.m.
Attendance is mandatory if you are planning to participate in Commencement
Exercises. Final grades will be distributed then.
o Graduating Seniors are not required to participate in Commencement. We
must, however, know your plans. If you do not plan to attend Commencement,
you must notify the Registrar's Office by Monday, May 28.
Diplomas will be mailed to non-participants.
o Caps and gowns are optional for Commencement. However, appropriate dress
(dresses or dress pants for women, coats and ties for men) is required.
Arrangements for caps and gowns should already have been made through the
Student Activities Office. You must have paid for your cap and gown in order
to receive it at the Commencement Rehearsal. The fee is $15.00 and is
payable in cash or by check made out to: Knox College.
o Hotel reservations should have been made by this time since space is quite
limited during this busy weekend. For hotel information, consult with the
Student Activities Office.
o Caps and gowns will be distributed during rehearsal, Friday, June 1, 2001.
Caps and gowns must be returned to the Gizmo Patio immediately following
Commencement, before 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2001. In case of rain, caps
and gowns will be collected in the Memorial Gymnasium.

15. SUMMER MAIL FORWARDING INFORMATION
Students: Within the next few days, the Mailroom will distribute forwarding
cards in the student mailboxes. Please note the following:
1) The card will show your permanent address.
2) If this is the address that you want your mail forwarded to, and you are
returning next fall, please sign and date the card and return it to the
Mailroom.
3) If you wish your mail to be sent to a different address, supply that
information in the space provided. Be sure to indicate if this is a
permanent change.
4) If you intend to continue picking up mail in your campus box for the
summer, clearly indicate that in the appropriate space. The mail from your
box will need to be picked up regularly.
5) Be sure to mark whether or not you'll be returning next term.
6) Be sure to sign and date the card.
7) Return the card to the Mailroom before you leave campus.
8) If you do not return your card to the Mailroom, your mail will be
forwarded to the address shown on your card.
Because of space limitations, we are unable to hold student mail over
the summer. If you are unable to either pick up your mail or to forward it
you may want to talk to the Mailroom supervisor. If you are expecting test
and/or papers after you have left campus, you may wish to check to see if
you can leave a large self addressed stamped envelope with your professor.
If you are graduating, but will be returning to campus next term and need
to keep your mailbox, you will need to notify the Mailroom supervisor in
writing, or by e-mail before June 6. Please include with your name and box
number, the reason you will be on campus.
