Local bookstores are the Knox College bookstore and Waldenbooks (at the mall).  These have limited stock for browsing. For truly great bookstores, one needs to travel. Here are two superb ones; you can spend many happy hours browsing in either of them, should you be in Chicago or Iowa City.
The Seminary Coop Bookstore (member owned, with 10% member discounts), in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, 5757 S. University Ave., 800-777-1456, http://www.semcoop.com; the Coop has an enormous selection of academic books, perhaps the best in the world outside of Blackwell's in Oxford. Prairie Lights Bookstore, 15 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City, 800-295-BOOK, http://www.prairielights.com. Both of these stores will take orders over the phone or on their web sites; the web sites have much other useful information. Consider supporting these great bookstores instead of amazon.com.  There is also Barnes & Noble and Borders in Peoria.
